Travel and Accommodation Assistance

If you, or a family member, need to travel long distances – or frequently – to see a specialist while pregnant or for your baby once born, then you may be eligible for help with expenses under the National Travel Assistance Scheme. These expenses may include travel, accommodation and support person costs.

To find out if you are eligible for this assistance, read more below, or visit the Travel Assistance desk at Whangarei Hospital. They are located on the ground floor, to the left of the Outpatients desk.

You may be eligible for travel assistance depending on how far you live from Whangarei Hospital, how often you have to visit Whangarei hospital, and what type of appointments you have. Other accommodation

The Whanau House on Hospital Road has limited spaces available for family members who need somewhere to stay overnight. There is a small charge for this service.

You can ask to book a bed at the Travel Assistance desk at Whangarei Hospital, or if you are arriving after hours, ask at the Security Desk at the A&E department, ground floor.

There are laundry facilities available on the lower ground floor for patient use. There is a charge associated with this.
