IDA'S BIRTH
We tried for five months to get pregnant with our second baby, Desperately wanting to complete our family with a baby girl we tried all the old wives tale’s, Five months later we were pregnant with our second baby.
Four days later I started bleeding on Dale’s Birthday 19th June, We rushed to the hospital only to find it was too early to hear a heartbeat anyway and were advised to have a blood test followed by another in two days.
It took 9 long days to know weather we were still pregnant or not..
About two weeks later the morning sickness began, Vomiting four times a day and at times unable to keep water down therefore hospitalised overnight on an IV fluid drip.
This Lasted Right up until 20weeks!! 3 very long months of constant morning sickness!! Better be a girl!!!
We went off to our 20week scan, Mama, Dada, Cam and Puppy Kai then 8weeks old… It’s a ……….Girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We named you Ida.. Your great nana Ruth was sick all year, with me by her side everyday, She passed away in Hospital when I was 21weeks pregnant.
She was lovely!!! Cam and I adored her to bits and secretly Dale was her favourite.
At 27weeks the midwife was concerned you weren’t growing as the charts say you should, I went for a scan to find you were perfect. And sucking away on your little hand.
Your due date 20th Feb 2013, Came and went.
On Sunday 4 days overdue I had a stretch and sweep appt with my midwife to find I was 2cm already!
On Monday the 25th was our one year wedding anniversary, Aunt Christa Arrived and we all went down to our wedding site and she took a photo of Dada, Cam, Mama and her now Massive belly!
Labour begins
The next day Tuesday 26th 6days overdue.
We took Cam To mainly music, Stopped in at Aunty Alice’s on our way home (Also pregnant with Taitama in her Puku).
I felt started to feel slight contractions every hour.. We headed home.
By 6pm they were every 10minutes and quite sore. Aunt Christa was here with us for a week to hang out with CamCam and meet you!!
11pm - 1.30am
We all went to bed at 11pm, Your dad snored and I continued to labour with contractions now about 4mins apart, By 1.30am I was in intense pain Contractions 2-3mins apart, I went and had a shower, spewed everywhere! Went back up stairs and woke your dad. He rubbed my back and timed my contractions as I spewed in a bucket bedside the bed.
5am
5am I was in even more intense pain and we kissed Cam as he slept and let Aunty Christa Know we were off to the hospital.
We arrived My midwife asked if we wanted to check and see how Dilated I was, we were hesitant but yes please…. 7cm yay!! I then said I would have screamed if I was 5cm or under!!
I laboured in the rocking chair for the next 2 and a bit hours with the help of your dada and the Gas.
Then I felt like pushing, Surely not we hadn’t been here very long!
The birthing pool was being filled.
The midwife let me push when I needed to, She asked to check my Dilation on the bed.
Sure enough I was 10cm!! She said she couldn’t see the head tho! I nearly cried, I can’t do this!! I was in so much pain I couldn’t think and really thought I just couldn’t do it, it hurt too much I wanted it to all stop.
Your dada help my hand and supportively encouraged me on.
I didn’t even have time to transfer into the birthing pool as we had hoped.

With what felt like 3 contractions later your head was out and one more you were born into your dada’s arms!!

You fed straight away for an hour!!
We were showed your placenta in Detail as I hadn’t seen Cam’s at all.
Gramma Suzie walked in 10mins after you were born and Cam arrived back from Kindy around 10am Followed by Aunty Christa.
We were all smitten!!!
The first night You Dada and I enjoyed each other’s company getting to know our new baby girl.
The second night Dada went home to sleep and be with Cam and Aunty Christa Slept with you and I.
And on the third night we all returned home together….
We were all in love, my sweet family of four!!

What advice would you reccommend to other Northland mums / families?
Don’t be scared trust your body.
