CAM'S BIRTH STORY

Your dada and I had been together for four lovely years, In that time I had also lost my dad 

We were settled, had a lovely home and had made a life for ourselves as a couple.
Oct 2008 we decided to try for a baby in the new year come 2009, We fell pregnant three weeks later!!

My pregnancy with you was very smooth, Few weeks of morning sickness but nothing out of the norm and still working 4-5days at Boatshed café.. Over the next few months at the café there were three of us expecting babys!! Annika Alice and myself, “something in that boatshed café water” everyone would say. We had fun working together and growing our babys.

20weeks came along and we decided not to find out the sex, we were both getting excited about the birth of our first baby together.

Dada started on the house renovations, New Carpet, Lining the walls and a Installing a fire place.. We were as ready as we could be..

Your due date 7th July 2009..
That Day we went walking on the beach and walked up to the waterfall at waiotemarama to try and bring on my Labour.. Nothing.

The next night one day overdue Aunty Leela Came over and we all watched a movie, I felt niggles every hour at around 9pm.
We went to bed on a mattress next to the fire, That night I sat up everyhour with a slightly sore contraction.

9am

Around 9am we popped into boatshed to grab a coffee on our way into the Hopital, Contraction there too!

We arrived at the hospital all excited and eager only to find we were only 2cm!!
I Laboured on, walked around the Hospital with your dada, Gramma Suzie came to visit and brought us cake, Friends dropped in to see how we were doing, Along with Aunty Leela and Garlic chips!!!!
Later that day we were alone again.
I dropped to my knee’s at every contraction, Tried the birthing pool’s warm water only to have to spew over the side.

Monitoring your heartbeat showed you were missing a beat every now and then.

That night I was exausted!!! I looked at the gas but couldn’t even concintrate to ask how to use it! The midwife guessed you would maybe be born around Midnight…

12am

Midnight came and went I was only 7cm!
Getting there but just way too exhausted by then.

4am

At 4am we were in the ambulance, off to Whangarei Hospital for a bit of help.
The Ambulance was horrible, Uncomfortable, Bumpy and painful.
We drove passed our Road (Ohuri Road) and I cried with pain “please take me home”.
Then I fell asleep!

6am

We arrived down in Whangarei around 6am it was dark we were Nervous.

I was hooked up to a machine to monitor your heart beat along with my contractions and given an IV drip with a drug called Oxytocin which is what your body releases naturally during labour but because I was so exhausted I was lacking in it.

Contractions started up more regular, I sucked away on the gas, Your dad too!
I Laboured all morning with Contractions getting stronger but still all over the show inbetween 2-10mins apart.
They left us to it, checking every 20mins or so.
Gramma Suzie (your dads mum) was with us, By then It was her 60th Birthday!!!
Then they really started to kick in hard and strong! I held your dad’s hand as hard as I could a screamed that I couldn’t do it any Longer, I was Hot, Cold, Thirsty and my lips were so dry!
Sip of water, Lip balm, Sip of water, Lip balm!!
Your dads eyes Teared up watching me so helplessly.

I was checked, and found to be 10cm in intense pain I started to push with every contraction.
I could see your head coming out, I felt it with my hand, Sooo near!

2.10pm

After pushing for over an hour!!!!! You were born into your Dads arms at 2.10pm  Friday 10th July 2009 after an excruciating 41 hours Later!!!!!
Gramma Suzie said, “it’s a boy”
You were passed straight to mama, and you pee’d on me! Followed by your first poo too.
We temporary named you baby DJ. (Dale Juinor)
While you were handed to my chest for snuggles and your first feed I was stitched up.
We were both crying with joy, I had done it, We had done it!!!!

You were bathed and dressed for the first time by your dada.
Uncle Darius was our first Visitor as not many people knew we had been transferred.
That night at around  6pm Your dada and Gramma headed for home. As I was not allowed to be discharged or even transferred to Rawene due to bleeding and tight chest pains, and Fathers were not aloud to stay overnight.

They left and I cried!! Then looked down at your sweet face and knew it would be okay, Just one night, such a pitty being your first night ever in this world tho!

We survived the night and Dada arrived to pick us up, We stopped in to Aunty Pearl and Uncle Dari’s on our way home.
It was super stormy drive home!!
You were still baby DJ and decided to name you before we arrived home, on our list were:

•    Luton (where my dad was born in England)
•    Romey (I liked) and
•    Campbell (Dale’s middle name and Gramma’s Maiden name)

I texted Aunty Agnes (My best friend and Your god mother) these three options along with a photo of You bearly 24hours old, She texted back “Cam” Campbell.

We stopped in At Nana Ruth’s on our way home, she was smitten.
Uncle Ra, Aunty Frith and a then Oneyear old cousin  Saxon Came to visit their new baby nephew. Aunty Agnes was with us for the next two weeks Cooking cleaning and snuggling you.

We spent the first month Snuggled up by the fire on a mattress in the lounge everynight.
And there it was Our first baby, a Boy.
