KAYNE'S BIRTH

Hi my name is Teyana, I am the mother of a beautiful  Healthy Baby Boy named Kayne.I fell pregnant at the age of 16 gave birth at 17, now keep reading on and let me tell you my beautiful birth experience.

Its a beautiful thing having a baby I never thort I'd have a baby so young, but always imagined having a baby with the guy who has my heart.

I carried right up to 41 weeks. During my pregnancy I had real bad back pain and was always so emotional but thank god I was lucky enough to not have morning sickness.

Anyways I had a 5 hour labour my first contraction was really at 12 am in the morning and didnt get another one till 4.50 am. The first one hit then went away, the second one came not long after. By the third contraction I needed to go for a poo so went for a poo then came back to the room and had another contraction. I had no idea that I was actually going into labour, went toilet again and then thats when my partner woke his mum and and it was all on from there.

Off to hospital

My partners mum rang my mum and sister saying its happening! I was in my room for about 1 hour and my contractions started getting longer and closer, we though I already need to go hospital, asked my independent midwife to meet me up there because my contractions wore so close together. By then its 7.30am.

Midwife did a examination, I was 7cm dialated I was soo happy as the pains got sorer and I started getting weaker and feeling discomfort. To me, the contractions feel like someone hitting you hard in the tummy and someone has there hand up your vagina ripping your insides haha!

I decided to hop in the bath to try and relax - it helped me so much. I asked for the gas when though I could have gone without it but thort why not? I felt so dizzy and felt so high and happy laughing then when a contraction came along the pain was getting more and more sore and from then I knew it was time I knew he was ready to come out.

Push!

As I went back into the room I got on and off the bed, I was feeling heavy pressure dragging from my waist down. I got on the bed and started to do weak pushes. Then half an hour along I started pushing so hard. I had alot of support in the room - my mother, my sister, my partner, his mum and sister who have plenty of experience just helping me through it all which I so appreciate - wouldnt know what to do if they wernt in the room!

I had my mum holding one leg and partner holding the other and I pushed and pushed. My partner looked and cried and then everyone in the room cried, then I knew one more push... I pushed as hard as I could and pop out came the head, I had a couple more breaths and little push and out come our Baby boy Kayne Aratakina Te Aorangi Eladen Darryn Hill Turner Born 25 February 2013 at 10.36am weighing in at 9 pound 8.5ounces.

We had bonding time for about 30 minutes then the daddy cut the umbilical cord and I cried and cried from joy that our precious baby was safe and sound and healthy. As he looked at me I could just not believe that I just had a baby from being in me for 9 months and now wa holding him. What a blessing. That god has given us this baby - my partner and I are parents - I could never thank him enough!

I love my monkey boy with all my heart and its unconditional love. I will always love him and provide for him always be here for him when he needs a shoulder my baby is my number 1!

Things you would do the same?

I am glad we had each other for support, so much support made it alot easier.

Things you would do differently?

I wished I video recorded it.

What advice would you recommend to other Northland mums / families?

Try and stay relaxed (as hard as it can be), have the right support.
